The basic operation of a battery

Battery is a collection of one or more cells ,which creates chemical reaction in them by which electron flow in the circuit. It has three components : anode, cathode and chemical substance called electrolyte which reacts with anode and cathode. There are two types of batteries, one is primary batteries which are like use and throw and the secondary batteries are rechargeable. Batteries help in storing the energy in the portable containers. Batteries are the alternatives for the direct current supply. The secondary batteries can be charged using the battery charges which reinforces the energy in it by forcing electric current in to it

Relay is an electrical equipment which incorporates electromagnet, activated by current signal in one circuit to open or close the other circuit. It operates by small current to on or off the large electric current. The relays can be classified on the basis of the function they perform. The functions are protecting, regulating, reclosing etc. Relays allow the circuit to switch to a second circuit which is totally separate from the first one.

In the batteries, battery relays are used to isolate the two batteries. The best example is in a car if there two batteries are placed parallel, they have the impulse to charge and drain each other. To improve the life time of the batteries, battery relays are installed which disconnects the two batteries when the engine is shut down. After starting the car the batteries are reconnected. The relays are made tiny and durable to perform well in all types of conditions. Even if they are exposed to bad weather condition they work well.

Using of relays in the batteries will help to increase the life period of it. It prevents from the energy discharging from them. They are compatible with all types of alternators and chargers. The rate of current transfer is also maximised. It is very much used in the battery isolation mainly in the vehicles. The relays are also used in computers, stabilisers, electric motor switches, traffic signal controllers, television sets and in the temperature regulating systems. The contact materials used in the relays depend on its applications.
